Graysons appoints ex-Compass education man to head schools business

Graysons Restaurants has appointed a former head of Compass's education business to run the newly-created Graysons Education.

Mike Bond was managing director of Compass's education division up to 2007 and helped develop the Chartwells brand that Compass uses for its independent schools business.

Bond joins after Graysons bought Duchy Catering from administration in January, acquiring a significant number of school contracts as part of the deal, including Liverpool's school meals service.

Rowena Edwards, chief executive of Graysons Restaurants, said: "Our strategy has always been to build an education business. Mike is the ideal person to lead this part of our strategy."

Graysons Education will focus on the independent schools sector as well as high and further education. Duchy Catering will continue as a brand within the state sector.

Bond left Compass in July of last year.
