Eden Foodservice wins £2.7m Devon school meals deal

Eden Foodservice has picked up a £2.7m turnover, three-year deal to provide school dinners in Devon.

The caterer, part of Rentokil Initial, has been awarded the £900,000 a year deal by Torbay council to feed pupils at 23 primary and special schools in Torquay, Paignton and Brixham.

Eden Foodservice, which will provide all meals on site, has promised to include greater levels of fruit and vegetables than at present.

Around 60 staff from incumbent Devon Catering and Cleaning Services will transfer to the private contractor as part of the deal.

Cabinet member for children's services, councillor Anna Tolchard, said: "The school catering service is vital to the development of the children's health, good dietary practice and healthy life choices.

"The offer from Eden Foodservice, combined with its proven track record, represents the best possible services for those schools involved in terms of quality and value for money."
