Brindisa makes six redundancies and is set to appoint new MD

Spanish food importer and restaurant operator Brindisa has made six redundancies and is set to appoint a new managing director as a part of a company-wide restructure, Caterersearch has learnt.

Brindisa's founder and current managing director Monika Linton, who set the company up 20 years ago to supply the restaurant trade, will remain involved in the company but will now specialise in products and sourcing.

The company supplies the restaurant trade from its warehouse in Balham, south London, runs retail outlets at the capital's Borough Market (it has just closed its Exmouth Market store as part of the restructure) and operates three restaurants: Brindisa Tapas in London Bridge, Tierra Brindisa in Soho and Casa Brindisa in South Kensington.

A source close to Brindisa told Caterersearch that the restructure was necessary as the company had previously made much of its profit from the Sterling to Euro exchange rate.

"Now that the company has lost that advantage, it has to become a smarter business machine," the source said. "The changes are needed to cope with the company's desired plans for expansion and growth."

The six redundancies affected roles that were duplicated across the different areas of the business, the source added.

The appointment of the new managing director is currently being finalised and is expected to be announced within the next two weeks. The company said the changes had not affected its restaurnat business in any way.
