Welcome Break signs deal with Waitrose
Motorway services company Welcome Break has signed a franchisee deal with supermarket chain Waitrose.
Two of the supermarket group's smallest ever stores will open at Welcome Break's Oxford Services on the M40 (1 May), with the second launching at South Mimms on the M25 on 15 May.
The openings will create 50 jobs and follow a similar strategy adopted by rival Moto, which has a tie-up with Marks and Spencer Simply Food.
Welcome Break chief executive Rod McKie said: "This is an exciting opportunity for the company to partner with a quality food retailer. We are delighted that Waitrose has chosen Welcome Break for its franchise operation in the UK and are looking forward to opening the two stores in May".
Welcome Break already has tie-ups with fast food operators Burger King and KFC, as well as newsagent WH Smith at its 24 sites across the UK, which have an annual footfall of 80 million.
