As is written in pop folklore: In the navy, Yes, you can sail the seven seas. In the navy, Yes, you can put your mind at ease. Good news then for contract caterer Charlton House, which has won a deal with Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, home of the Royal Navy.

If that's a bit camp for your tastes, how about winning a masterclass with the terribly manly Hell’s Kitchen star Marco Pierre White?

Although Marco isn't likely to be found in a staff restaurant anytime soon, the FSA claimed this week that food at work is now generally better for you than it was even a year ago thanks to its healthier workplace food initiative.

But do you agree and is Hell's Kitchen any good anyway? Either way, why not share your thoughts on these topics and many more, courtesy of our new networking site, Table Talk? We'd love to have you along for the ride, so join us today.

One journey that's almost at an end is the £100m refurbishment of London's Savoy hotel. With an opening date set for the end of this year, Gordon Ramsay Holdings revealed it had appointed Stuart Gillies, previously at Boxwood Cafe, to oversee the relaunch of the Savoy Grill at the hotel .

News also that Michelin-starred chef Heston Blumenthal of TV and Fat Duck fame could be coming to London to open his first restaurant in the capital.

Skelwith buy-to-let hotel company boss Paul Ellis refuted claims that the business model was fundamentally flawed after the difficulties of rival Owner Hotels and collapse of Guest Invest last year.

Compass Group carried on its recent run of sporting success with a contract extension at Trent FM Arena Nottingham, home of the National Ice Centre.

But on thin ice this week was the chancellor, Alistair Darling, who after ignoring the pub sector's plea not to raise beer tax further was accused of not giving a XXXX about the industry.

Sticks and stones may break my bones, but beer tax will surely mean more people heading for the supermarket to drown their sorrows during the recession as the pub trade continues to haemorrhage pubs and jobs.

Despite this, cocktail bar group Be At One has defied the gloom announcing a record profit. Class in a glass.
