Boath House chef is 2009 Scottish Chef of the Year

Charles Lockley, head chef at the Michelin-starred Boath House hotel in Auldearn, Nairn, has been named the 2009 Scottish Chef of the Year.

Now in its 13th year, the annual competition, which is sponsored by the Cookery School in Glasgow, saw Lockley win the prestigious award for his cooking at the 26-cover restaurant near Inverness.

He beat fellow Michelin-starred chefs Colin Craig and Lesley Crosfield at The Albannach in Lochinver and Bruce Sangster of SanGsters in Elie to second and third places respectively.

Roy Brett, head chef at Dakota in North Queensferry, was named Hotel Chef of the Year, while Craig Dunn, head chef at Michael Caines at Abode Glasgow, won Restaurant Chef of the Year.

Neil Clark of La Vallee Blanche in Glasgow was named City Chef of the Year, with the award for Rural Chef of the Year going to Patrick Bardoulet of The Horseshoe Inn at Eddleston.

Other winners were:

  • Jamie Donald of Gandolfi Fish in Glasgow (Seafood Restaurant Chef of the Year)
  • Michelle Phillips of Loopy Lorna's in Edinburgh (Casual Dining Chef Award)
  • Mike Greig of King's Wark in Edinburgh (Gastro Pub Chef of the Year)
  • John Jones of Yatai in Aberdeen (Asian Restaurant Chef of the Year)
  • Daniella Cocchia of Osteria in North Berwick (Italian Restaurant Chef of the Year)
  • Adam Stokes of Glenapp Castle in Ballantrae (Menu of the Year Award)
  • Graham Edmiston of Abstract in Edinburgh (Young Chef of the Year)
