New school meals training centres announced

The School Food Trust (SFT) has announced that three new skills centres for school will launch in London this September.

Enfield Catering Services, Greenwich Co-operative Development Agency and Westminster Kingsway College have all joined the SFT’s School Feast (Food Excellence and Skills Training) scheme.

Feast centres offer a wide range of courses for school cooks from basic food preparation and cooking to food safety and kitchen management.

Rosie Boycott, chairman of London Food, said: “This is excellent news for thousands of school-children in London who are set to benefit from tasty, healthy food prepared by top-notch school cooks.”

The three new centres will add to the 26 nationwide, which are training kitchen staff with new skills to support the new food standards introduced by the SFT.

As of September, nutrient-based food standards will be compulsory at state secondary schools in England having been introduced last September at primary level.
