IRC says its restaurant brands are still trading robustly

Piccolino operator Individual Restaurant Company (IRC) today said its restaurants are performing well despite the tough economic climate and low consumer confidence.

The company, which also operates Restaurant Bar & Grill chain, said that trading for the 17 weeks to 10 May was in line with expectations, adding that its restaurant brands are in "robust" shape.

"This underlines their significant roll out potential, putting the company in a strong position to take advantage of the first signs of returning consumer confidence," IRC said in a statement.

However, the group, which operates 34 restaurants, warned that trading conditions will continue to be challenging "for the time being".

While IRC did not give any percentage figures for sales performance, it said it had shaved £2m off its costs and added that "this remains an area of considerable focus for the management team".
