Heston Blumenthal restaurant will open in London Mandarin Oriental

Heston Blumenthal, chef proprietor of the three-Michelin-starred Fat Duck, has confirmed that he will be opening a restaurant at the Mandarin Oriental hotel in London.

The move, first revealed by Caterersearch in April, will see Blumenthal taking over the site currently occupied by Foliage restaurant in autumn 2010. It marks the celebrity chef's debut in London.

The 140-seat restaurant will be designed by interior designer Adam Tihany, who plans to highlight materials such as wood, leather and iron to reflect Blumenthal's revival of traditional British dishes.

The kitchen will be headed by Ashley Palmer Watts who has worked with Blumenthal at The Fat Duck for nine years as group executive chef.

Blumenthal said: "I am thrilled at the prospect of opening a restaurant in such a central London location. I have great respect for the Mandarin Oriental brand and working in partnership with the hotel group is a natural step and one which offers an exciting opportunity."

David Nicholls, corporate director of food & beverage at Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, added: "We are delighted to partner with The Fat Duck Group on this very exciting new venture.

"A longtime friend of Heston's, I have always shared his enthusiasm for English recipes and have enjoyed working with him to help develop talented British chefs through the Roux Scholarship programme."

Caterersearch this week revealed that French-born Michelin-starred chef Daniel Boulud is considering opening at the Mandarin Oriental in the site formerly occupied by the Grill restaurant.
