Chester Race Company brings catering inhouse

Chester Race Company has announced plans to bring the catering inhouse at its Chester and Bangor on Dee racecourses.

Richard Thomas, chief executive of Chester Race Company, confirmed that the five-year catering contract currently operated by Heathcotes Outside will not be renewed when it ends later this year. Instead, from 1 January 2010, the catering will be managed in-house by the company's newly-formed catering division

"The quality of catering at both Chester and Bangor on Dee has been transformed by the team at Heathcotes Outside," said Thomas. "However, it makes enormous sense to operate this part of our business from within."

He added that he anticipated that the catering division would contribute sales to the group of about £35m over the next five years.

Paul Heathcote, director of Heathcotes Outside, which is part of the Lindley Group, said he was disappointed about the decision. "We put a lot of work into it. Turnover has trebled on non-race days and doubled on race days since we were appointed in 2004," he said.
