Revpar falls by 8% in London and by 9.6% in the regions
Hotel revenue per available room (revpar) dropped by 8% in London and by 9.6% in the provinces in the week ending 27 June 2009, according to figures from hospitality research company STR Global.
London revpar fell to £131.44, down from £142.85 in the equivalent week of 2008. Occupancy grew by 0.9 percentage points, to 92.4%, but average room rate shrank by 8.9% to £142.26
In the same week, regional revpar fell to £53.76 (2008: £59.44) as occupancy slipped by 2.1 percentage points (to 75.3%) and average room rate decreased by 7.1% to £71.35.
Edinburgh bucked the provincial trend by boosting revpar by 3.3% to £79.71 (2008: £77.16). Occupancy grew by 1.5 percentage points to 86.9% while average room rate improved by 1.5% to £91.71.
Hotel revpar for the 28 days to 27 June declined by 8.9% in London (to £111.59) and by 13.2% in the provinces, to £49.75. In Edinburgh, revpar fell by 8.4% to £69.92.
