Charlton House revamps restaurant at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard

Boathouse No 7, the public restaurant and bar at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, has reopened its doors following a £140,000 revamp commissioned by on-site caterers Charlton House.

The caterer brought in design company Front Design to update the 250-seater restaurant after they were awarded a five-year contract worth £8m in April to manage the catering operation at the Historic Dockyard.

Dave Davies of Front Design, said: "Once all of the design concepts, plans, branding and costs had been agreed, we allowed ourselves six working days on-site to achieve the refurbishment, which we delivered without any complications."

Front design repositioned and replaced the old service counters; replaced the furniture with a structured arrangement of chairs and tables to maximise the available space and introduced a palette of colours to complement the historic building. Lighting was also key, to accommodate both daytime and evening events.

Charlton House also manages Action Stations Cafe in Boathouse 6 and a Costa Coffee outlet in the main ticketing office at the Historic Dockyard.
