Weekly revpar falls by 1% in London and by 6% in the regions

Hotel revenue per available room (revpar) fell by just 1.1% in London and by 6.2% in the provinces in the week ending 25 July 2009, according to figures from hospitality research company STR Global.

London revpar fell to £117.49, down from £118.76 in the equivalent week of 2008. Occupancy grew by 3.1 percentage points, to 89.5%, while average room rate shrank by 4.4% to £131.31.

In the same week, regional revpar fell to £49.54 (2008: £52.84) as occupancy slipped by 0.3 percentage points (to 74.3%) and average room rate decreased by 5.9% to £66.64.

Edinburgh hotels fared much better, boosting revpar by 10.3% to £75.04 (2008: £68.06) on the back of a 6.2 percentage point rise in occupancy to 87.4% and a 2.5% hike in average rate, to £85.91.

Hotel revpar for the 28 days to 25 July declined by 9.2% in London (to £120.86) and by 13.2% in the provinces, to £48.74. In Edinburgh, revpar increased by 3.4% £71.38.
