Marston's backs first National Pub Week

Brewer and pub operator Marston's is lending its support to the first National Pub Week this autumn and is calling on its licensees to get involved.

National Pub Week, which will run from 31 October to 7 November, is organised by campaign group Justice for Licensees (JFL) and aims to highlight the important role pubs play in their local communities.

Marston's is urging licensees across its 1,750 tenanted and 500 managed pub group to support the event and will be handing out prizes for pubs with the most inventive initiatives surrounding the week.

Inez Ward, founder of JFL, which has 360,000 members, welcomed the company's support of the event.

"Marston's is to be applauded for taking the time and effort to care about the great British pub and for supporting and promoting National Pub Week," he said.

Pete Lyne, Marston's head of retail solutions, added: "We will be encouraging our licensees to take part through a series of business building activities linked to Halloween and Guy Fawkes Night."

A host of celebrities are set to back the week including Darts champions John Lowe and Eric Bristow, who also back JFL's Save the Great British Pub Campaign.
