First Little Chef revamped by Heston Blumenthal makes Good Food Guide
The Little Chef in Popham, Hampshire has made it into next year's Good Food Guide following three-Michelin-starred chef Heston Blumenthal's makeover of its menu.
The guide said that its inspectors had been so impressed by the cooking of dishes like braised ox cheeks and Hereford steak and Abbot ale pie at the Popham eaterie that they awarded it a cooking score of two out of ten-which is awarded for "Decent cooking, displaying good basic technical skills and interesting combinations and flavours. Occasional inconsistencies."
Though the Little Chef menu has retained the spirit and prices of its original repertoire, it was tweaked and upgraded with better quality produce during the Channel 4 documentary Big Chef Little Chef.
The new Olympic breakfast includes free-range eggs, outdoor-bred British pork sausages, Wiltshire-cured back bacon and Ramsay of Carluke black pudding.
Elizabeth Carter, editor of The Good Food Guide
Blumenthal added: "I am overjoyed with this news. Inclusion in The Good Food Guide is a great barometer of success and it's fantastic news for Little Chef Popham to be recognised by such an established British food guide."
