Weekly revpar slides by 13.2% in London and 17.6% in the regions

Hotel revenue per available room (revpar) fell by 13.2% in London and by 17.6% in the provinces in the week ending 5 September 2009, according to figures from hospitality research company STR Global.

London revpar dropped to £78.78, down from £90.71 in the equivalent week of 2008. Occupancy declined by 1.8 percentage points, to 71.6%, while average room rate shrank by 10.9% to £110.01.

In the same week, regional revpar fell to £42.49 (2008: £51.59) as occupancy dropped by 5.4 percentage points (to 66.1%) and average room rate decreased by 10.9% to £64.30.

Hotels in Manchester fared worse, with revpar dropping by 17.8% to £41.86 (2008: £50.92) on the back of a 2.8 percentage point fall in occupancy (to 65.1%) and a 14.2% slump in average room rate to £64.29.

Hotel revpar for the 28 days to 5 September declined by 10.9% in London (to £85.32) and by 10.5% in the provinces, to £44.93. In Manchester, revpar was down by 16.9%, to £38.42.
