Former head of Prue Leith's cookery school to launch own school

The former head of Prue Leith's cookery school in London is set to launch her own venture in Edinburgh this winter.

Fiona Burrell, former principal of the Leiths School Of Food And Wine, plans to open the Edinburgh New Town Cookery School in the Scottish capital in December.

The new school will run a variety of different courses, specialising in "life skills cookery", designed for all levels of ability from working chefs to students and home cooks.

It will offer professionals and amateurs the chance to study a number of courses including three-month certificates, and six-month diploma courses, as well as short themed courses.

Burrell, who worked with Leith for 12 years, will run the Edinburgh New Town Cookery School as principal. Located in the centre of Edinburgh, it will be spread over five floors and include a fully equipped teaching kitchen alongside a 50-cover demonstration theatre and a function room.

"It has been a life-long ambition to run my own cookery school in Edinburgh, where I started my career at a cook school on Manor Place some thirty years ago," Burrell said.

"We have found an ideal location for The Edinburgh New Town Cookery School. From our state of the art facilities, to a wide range of courses, we aim to be the ultimate destination for any level of cook wishing to improve their skills."
