Boutique London hotel 22 Jermyn Street to close next month

The luxury boutique hotel 22 Jermyn Street is set to close on October 1 due to the redevelopment of the city block in which it is located.

The hotel has been under the direction of the Togna family since 1915, when it first signed a lease with the Crown Estate.

But the lease has now expired and the city block in which the hotel is located is to be redeveloped by the Crown Estate as part of the St James's Gateway scheme- which comprises of the part demolition and redevelopment to provide office and retail space, as well as fifteen residential units.

The management team, who have all been with the hotel for more than12 years, are taking up similar positions in other hotels and general manager and co-director, Laurie Smith, will continue to work with Henry on new projects.

Henry Togna, proprieter of the hotel, said: "As a home, highly unusual playground, and business, I will have innumerable fond memories of Jermyn Street, gathered over not just my own, but my family's lifetimes as well. "

Togna has been proprietor of the hotel since 1990 when he agreed to buy the hotel from his father. He converted it into one of London's first boutique hotels.
