Thomas Keller's French Laundry retains three Michelin stars
The French Laundry in California has retained three stars in the 2010 edition of the Michelin guide to San Francisco, the Bay Area and Wine Country for the fourth consecutive year.
Thomas Keller's iconic restaurant in Napa Valley has remained the only establishment in the northern California guide with the top accolade of three stars.
Four restaurants have been awarded two stars including David Kinch's Manresa in Los Gatos in the Santa Cruz mountains; Coi in San Francisco; Cyrus in Sonoma; and the restaurant at Meadowood in Napa Valley.
Now in its fourth edition, the Michelin guide to San Francisco, Bay Area and Wine Country, which was released yesterday (19 October), lists 34 starred establishments bringing the total of Michelin stars in the area to 45.
The guide identified 18 new restaurants as Bib Gourmands - offering two courses and a glass of wine or dessert for less than $40 (£24) - bringing the total to 62. It also selected 89 restaurants offering a meal for less than $25 (£15).
Next to the San Francisco, Bay Area and Wine Country edition, Michelin currently publishes three guides in the USA for New York, Los Angeles and Las Vegas.
The group's New York guide, which was released earlier this month, awarded French chef Daniel Boulud's flagship restaurant Daniel the top accolade of three stars bringing the total of three-Michelin-starred restaurants in the city to five.
