Michelin-starred Sketch to open pop-up cafe at Royal Academy of Arts

Michelin-starred London restaurant Sketch is to launch a pop-up café at the Royal Academy of Arts next month.

The Mayfair restaurant, created by French chef Pierre Gagnaire and restaurateur Mourad Mazouz, will set up a temporary camp at the historic venue for two months from 3 December which will coincide with this year's GSK Contemporary Art season.

Sketch at the Royal Academy will run alongside a new art exhibition, Earth: Art of a Changing World, and will be in line with the exhibition's theme of an artistic response to the climate change debate.

The 70-seat café will serve breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and takeaway options, with the menu created by Gagnaire.

The menu will be focused on seasonal ingredients sourced from England while interiors, overseen by Sketch's artistic director Mark Lawson Bell, will feature furniture made from recycled heavy-duty cardboard.

An outdoor area will be included in the cafe where diners can order from a takeaway menu, an oyster bar or creperie with Sketch providing handmade patchwork rugs and hot water bottles to keep them warm.

Last year, east London restaurant Bistrotheque ran a pop-up restaurant at the Royal Academy called Flash, which was built from art storage boxes.
