Four Wetherspoon pubs scoop prizes for their loos
JD Wetherspoon has the best pub loos across the UK, according to the judges of a competition which scours the country for the cleanest public toilets.
The firm brushed aside the opposition in the pubs and wine bars category of the Loo of the Year Awards 2009, being named the national category award winner in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
The four pubs that won the individual titles were: Goodman's Field (City of London); the Earl of Zetland (Grangemouth, Scotland); the John Capel Hanbury (Pontypool, Wales); and the Diamond, (Derry, Northern Ireland).
A total of 144 Wetherspoon pubs were entered into the awards.
The judges marked the toilets, which were inspected anonymously, from zero to a maximum five stars. The maximum five stars were awarded to 104 Wetherspoon pubs, while 40 received four stars.
Wetherspoon head of property and acquisitions, Jon Randall, said: "We are thrilled to have won so many plaudits in the Loo of the Year Awards 2009."
Fast-food giant McDonald's scooped the overall UK Loo of the Year award. Nominations are now being sought for next years awards.
