Entries sought for 2010 Savoy Gastronomes Olive Barnett Award

Entries are now being sought for the 2010 Savoy Gastronomes Olive Barnett Award, run by Springboard, which recognises high achievers aged 29 or younger in customer facing roles in hospitality, leisure, travel and tourism.

The award was created by the Savoy Gastronomes in recognition of Olive Barnett who pioneered excellence at the Savoy hotel, which will host the 2010 awards after its £100m refurbishment.

Last year's winner, Lexington Catering's Benjamin McEwen, urged others to enter. "The value of the award is just astronomical, it was such an excellent platform from which to really boost my career and have access to opportunities which ordinarily would have been harder to attain," he said.

This year, the entry requirements have changed. Entrants are requested to submit a two-minute video of themselves speaking answering the question: "Why have you chosen a career in the hospitality industry, and why do you feel you should be considered to receive the Olive Barnett Award?"

From these entries, a shortlist of 30 entrants will be selected and invited to submit a 750-word report, from which a final shortlist of eight finalists will be invited to attend the judging weekend in May.

Deadline for entires is 1 February 2010.
