BBPA appoints Andy Tighe as new director of brewing
Andy Tighe has this week been appointed as the new director of brewing at the British Beer & Pub Association.
The post was previously held by Dr David Long, who is retiring after 29 years with the BBPA. Long and Tighe will work along side each other for the next few months to ensure a seamless handover of responsibilties.
Brigid Simmonds, chief executive of the BBPA, said Tighe would be a key addition to the senior management team, adding: "He has a huge knowledge of the workings of the brewing industry, and already has a proven track record.
"He will be a key advocate for the whole sector across the huge range of vital brewing issues that we manage on behalf of members, not least of which is the ongoing debate on tax, where his knowledge and expertise will be crucial."
Tighe joined the BBPA in 1998 and moves from his current role as deputy director. In recent years, he has been a key figure in formulating the association's taxation policy and annual Budget submission, as well as heading up beer duty operations and supply chain issues.
Simmonds continued by paying tribute to Tighe's predecessor: "I would also like to express my thanks to David Long. David has been director of Brewing at the BBPA since 1995.
"He has made a huge contribution to the sector, and will be very much missed by the many who have worked closely with him. We wish him well."
