Tragus to continue with expansion plans

Casual dining restaurant chain operator Tragus is to continue to expand, as it reported a 3.6% rise in revenue for the first half of its financial year.

The company, which runs a total of 280 restaurants, saw like for like sales on its key Café Rouge, Bella Italia and Strada brands rise 3.7% for the four weeks ended 3 January 2010.

Tragus said that it had opened six new restaurants in the half year, including a new Café Rouge at Gatwick airport's South Terminal, and Heathrow Terminal 4.

It added that it remained on target to open a further nine restaurants in the second half of the year.

"We continue to see opportunities for expansion by taking advantage of our strong liquidity position and expect to open nine new restaurants in the second half of the year, including a number of prime sites in central London," a company statement said.

But it said it remained "cautious" for the overall economic outlook of the UK.
