Rick Stein reveals more about Falmouth fish and chip restaurant
Celebrity chef Rick Stein has unveiled details of his forthcoming fish and chip restaurant, which is set to open in Falmouth, Cornwall, next month.
The move, which was first announced last November, marks Stein's first Cornish restaurant venture outside Padstow where he runs four restaurants, a pub, a cookery school and three shops.
Rick Stein's Fish and Chips will be a 130-seat restaurant set on Discovery Quay in Falmouth. It will include an open plan kitchen and mezzanine oyster bar as well as a takeaway facility.
The restaurant will offer a menu similar to Stein's eponymous fish and chip restaurant on Padstow's quayside focused on locally sourced seafood.
Stein said he was delighted to open a restaurant in Falmouth. "Outside Padstow it's my favourite seaside town in Cornwall," he said.
"No wonder we've opened an oyster bar. I want to celebrate fabulous Fal Oysters."
Stein first announced his plans for the Falmouth restaurant last November and it was initially met with trepidation among local residents, who feared he would turn the town into ‘Falstein' by taking over its food scene.
The chef recently opened his first overseas venture with the launch of a restaurant at Bannisters luxury lodge on Australia's New South Wales coast.
