Remote hotel on Falklands island for sale
One of the most remote hospitality businesses in the world is up for sale.
Pebble Island Lodge is a six-bedroom hotel on Pebble Island, the third largest offshore island in the Falkland Islands. It is a 45 minute flight from the capital Stanley, 400 miles off the south east tip of South America and 7,000 miles from the UK.
The property sits at the heart of the only settlement on the 19-mile long island, which is a wildlife paradise with more than 40 species of bird including four types of penguins and concentrations of sea lions.
It was bought by the current owners, Jacqui Jennings and Allan White, in 2003 and comes fully furnished and ready for operation, with tourist bookings of more than £25,000 in place for the 2010/11 summer season.
Off-road 4×4 guided tours run from Pebble Island Lodge generated 21% of the property's income in 2008.
Visitors from the UK can reach the Falklands on a twice weekly charter flight operates by the Ministry of Defence from RAF Brize Norton.
Pebble Island Lodge, which includes a three bedroom flat for the owners or mangers, is on the market for £241,700.
