Roux brothers pick up Hall of Fame award at Hotelympia 2010
The godfathers of the British culinary scene, Albert and Michel Roux, have been presented with an award to mark their contribution to the industry by the organisers of Hotelympia 2010.
To mark the event's 75th anniversary year, Fresh RM, the exhibition's organisers, decided to unveil a Hall of Fame and bestow the first award on Silver Catey Award winners Albert and Michel Roux.
The award was presented to the Roux brothers by celebrity chef and fellow Roux Scholarship judge Brian Turner.
The show's group exhibition director, Toby Wand, said Hotelympia wanted to showcase individuals in the industry whose work has made a significant impact since the launch of the show in 1935 in its newly founded Hotelympia Hall of Fame.
"Hotelympia senior panel members took less than a minute to decide on who would be named as the first Hall of Fame entry, Albert and Michel Roux.
"The Roux Brother's influence has been significant in every aspect of the industry, including foodservice, supply chain and of course their teaching. The Roux Scholarship is undoubtedly considered the ultimate British competition for chefs. There was simply no question as to who should be inaugurated into the Hotelympia Hall of Fame."
