Tri HotStats: monthly European hotel figures
Nine of the 10 European countries surveyed in the monthly HotStats survey improved profitability in February 2010, according to Tri Hospitality Consulting.
Warsaw alone missed out on the improvement with a 15.5% decline in gross total operating profit per available room (goppar) to €27.55. It was one of the seven countries that failed to increase average room rate and one of three countries whose payroll costs increased.
Much of the rebound came from cities that had suffered "massive losses" in February 2009. The biggest growth in profitability was seen in Munich (+89.3%), Amsterdam (+57.3%), Budapest (+42%) and Vienna (+29%).
However, London's 14% boost to goppar, to €80.56, kept it at the top of the profitability table. Hotels in the UK capital enjoyed the highest occupancy (81%), average room rate (€154.41) and revenue per available room (€125.04) along with the lowest payroll costs as a percentage of turnover (25.7%)
The figures are compiled each month by Tri Hospitality Consulting.
