Tories most likely to celebrate election win with a local beer, finds SIBA

The Tories are most likely to sup on a traditional British pint if they win the coming General Election, according to the Society of Independent Brewers (SIBA).

Earlier this month SIBA wrote to 2,300 election candidates asking them to ditch the champagne in favour of beer brewed in their constituency in the event of victory.

Today it said that the Conservatives had been most enthusiastic in their response to the idea, accounting for 36% of positive responses, followed by the Liberal Democrats with 32% and Labour in third place with 18%. The Greens produced 11% - a high proportion given the small number of candidates the party has.

But no party leaders had yet answered the call to support their local brewers.
