Election 2010: six hospitality venues with political connections
1 Cliveden (left) Luxury Berkshire hotel where Conservative minister John Profumo met model Christine Keeler in July 1961. They began a sexual relationship that was to lead to Profumo's enforced resignation because Keeler had also had sexual relations with Yevgeny Ivanov, the senior naval attaché at the Soviet Embassy.
2 Granita Islington restaurant where Tony Blair and Gordon Brown held their famous meeting in 1994 before Brown announced he was giving way to Blair for the leadership of the Labour Party. Now a Tex-Mex restaurant called Desperados.
3 The Grand Hotel, Brighton Bombed by the IRA during the 1984 Conservative party conference. Five people were killed and 34 injured.
4 The Gay Hussar Soho restaurant popular with left-wing politicians such as Aneurin Bevan, Barbara Castle, and Michael Foot.
5 Savoy Grill Favourite haunt of Conservative prime ministers, due to reopen in 2010
6 Bread and Roses Clapham pub run by the Battersea and Wandsworth Trades Union council, which supports local and international workers' rights campaigns in the UK and around the world.
