Young Chef Young Waiter 2010 is now open for entries

This year's Young Chef Young Waiter competition is now open for entries.

Now in its 26th year, the competition, which is for chefs and waiters aged 25 and under, is an award for both front and back of house.

It is organised by the British Hospitality Association (BHA) and the Restaurant Association (RA) in partnership with American Express, the Savoy Educational Trust and Sodexo as well as various sponsors and rewards the best young chef and young waiter in the hospitality industry.

Judges will include Bruce Poole, chef-proprietor of the Michelin-starred Chez Bruce in South London, as the chair of the chef judges, and Stephen Mannock of Darlington College as the chair of the waiter judges.

Headline sponsor Von Essen Hotels will host the regional waiters' finals at Seaham Hall in County Durham and Hotel Verta in London.

Bob Cotton, chief executive of the BHA, said that the competition attracted young people from both prominent and lesser-known establishments. "This year we want to increase this number and encourage many more entries from all sectors of the industry - hotels, restaurants and contract catering and leisure catering," he said.

The deadline for entries to the 2010 Young Chef Young Waiter is 5 July.

To apply, visit the British Hospitality Association website or contact Pauline Jackson on 020 7404 7744 or email pauline.jackson@bha.org.uk.
