Summer Lodge's Clement Robert is Young Sommelier of the Year
Clement Robert from the Summer Lodge in Evershot, Dorset, has been named the Young Sommelier of the Year 2010.
Now in its third year, the competition, which is sponsored by Pernod Ricard and Gaggenau, is open to contestants aged between 21 and 35 and aims to recognise and promote young talent within the industry.
As the winner, 24-year-old Robert receives prizes including an all-expenses-paid trip to Australia to visit Pernod Ricard. He will go on to represent the UK at the Young Sommelier international finals in Santander, Spain, in October.
Eric Laler of London's Michelin-starred Texture and Loic Avril from the three-Michelin-starred Fat Duck in Bray, Berkshire, came in second and third places respectively.
Chairman of the judges and the World's Best Sommelier Gerard Basset said: "For the third year running we have seen that England as a whole is brimming with young wine talent and competitions such as this can only help to improve knowledge, understanding and appreciation for the skill of sommelierie."
