Tune Hotels.com promotes first London property with 1p-per-night offer

New budget group Tune Hotels.com is marking the announcement of its first London property with a limited period offer of 1,000 rooms available for a penny per night.

The 79-bedroom property is due to open on Westminster Bridge Road, near Lambeth North tube station, at the end of August 2010.

Already well-established in Asia, where the company operates nine properties, Tune Hotels.com aims to appeal to the budget traveller by offering five star beds and powerful hot showers at prices which will be typically around £35 per night. Promotional rooms will be regularly on offer from as low at £9 per night.

The business model of the company is based on the limited service airline concept, cutting under-utilised extras and charging on a pay-as-you-use basis for TVs, hairdryers and in-room WiFi.

To be known as Tune Hotels.com-Westminster, the property will be the first of 15 scheduled to open in London by 2017, creating an additional 1,500 bedrooms in the capital at a cost of £150m. The brand intends to have 100 hotels within its portfolio by 2015.

"Our opening offer of a room for a penny is outstanding and we hope it will encourage people who may not yet know the Tune Hotels.com brand to try staying at one of our properties," said Mark Lankester, group chief executive of Tune Hotels.com. "We are targeting the savvy traveller - leisure, business and those who prefer the idea of an affordable night in a hotel to an expensive cab ride home."

Tune Hotels.com is part of the Tune Group, the private investment group of Tony Fernandes, founder and group chief executive of low cost airline AirAsia and team principal of the Lotus F1 racing team. Tune Hotels.com in the UK will be operated under a strategic partnership with the Queensway Group](http://www.queensway.com/), a private investment group owning and operating hospitality assets in the UK, Europe and the United Arab Emirates.
