Pizza Express is king of the discount vouchers

Pizza Express offers more discount vouchers than any other restaurant chain, a survey has found, with demand for meal deals set to soar with the impending VAT rise announced in this week's emergency budget.

Pizza Express vouchers make up a third of the online restaurant deals market, according to restaurant voucher website Crunchlunch. Rival pizza chain Zizzi came in second place at 15%, with groups including Gourmet Burger Kitchen, Ask and La Tasca following with 8% of the market between them.

The result means that Gondola Holdings, which owns Pizza Express, Ask and Zizzi, controls nearly half of the online discount voucher market.

James Nixon, founder of Crunchlunch, said that the impending hike in VAT to 20% next January would reignite demand for discount vouchers among diners seeking to save on disposable income.

"It is now more important than ever for restaurants to promote their restaurant deals effectively online, and capture a share of this ever growing market of savvy customers," he said.
