TV helps Dominos Pizza post 30% rise in profits
Domino's Pizza has reported a 30% rise in profits in the first half of the year, boosted by the football World Cup and ITV's Britain's Got Talent TV show.
The company saw a 28.6% increase in pre-tax profits to £17.5m for the 26 weeks until 27 June. Like-for-like sales were up 13.7%, nearly double the increase for the same time last year.
Domino's e-commerce sector performed particularly well, growing more than 20% from 2009, with online sales now accounting for 32.7% of the UK delivery sales.
Celebrating 25 years in business, the group now operates 627 outlets in Britain and Ireland, having opened 19 new stores this year and being on track for a total of 55 new openings.
Chief executive officer Chris Moore said: "It is easy to try and attribute our success to one thing - be it the weather, Britain's Got Talent or the World Cup - but the underlying trend shows a more compelling picture.
"We look forward to the future with confidence. While we may be 25, we know that there is still so much more to learn to maximise the opportunities and unlock the potential of what is still a relatively under-developed market."
