Le Cafe Anglais to add Oyster Bar & Café

West London restaurant Le Café Anglais is to close for extension works this summer, which will see the addition of a 50-seat Oyster Bar & Café.

Chef-proprietor Rowley Leigh will close the 175-seat restaurant at Whitley shopping centre in London's Bayswater for two weeks at the end of August.

The new Oyster Bar & Café will be open from noon until 10pm seven days a week, serving a menu focused on fresh seafood and crustaceans as well as steak frites and sandwiches during lunchtime. Typical dishes will include smoked mackerel and apple salad; dressed crab; and langoustines with mayonnaise.

Architects Stiff + Trevillion have been appointed to oversee the project, which will continue the Art Deco theme of the restaurant. The centrepiece of the space will be a marble-topped bar accommodating around 20 stools, with wooden floors and red leather banquettes in the dining room.

Leigh first opened Le Café Anglais in 2007 with business partner Charlie McVeigh. He previously ran Kensington Palace for 20 years.

Separately, Italian restaurant L'Anima in the City of London, where Francesco Mazzei is chef-patron, will close for the month of August to extend the capacity of its dining room and bar by 40%.
