Polpo owners to launch second restaurant, Polpetto
London restaurant Polpo (left) is launching a nearby sister site next month called Polpetto.
Owners Russell Norman and Richard Beatty will open the new restaurant, located above the French House pub on Dean Street, on 23 August.
Polpetto will be a small, 28-seat restaurant serving a similar menu to Polpo. The kitchen will be overseen by head chef Tom Oldroyd, with dishes including cuttlefish in its ink, fritto misto and pizzetta bianca from the original Polpo, as well as new dishes such as Venetian-style soft-shell crab in Parmesan batter and pigeon saltimbocca.
Interiors at Polpetto will feature 19th-century French light fittings and hand-made zinc tables as well as mirrors crafted from reclaimed church windows.
Russell and Beatty, who launched Polpo on Beak Street to huge critical acclaim last autumn, are also opening a third restaurant, to be called Spuntino, in October.
"We were expecting to open Spuntino next month, also in Soho, but the project has been delayed," Russell said.
"The opportunity for Polpetto came along unexpectedly and we jumped at the chance to take on this legendary venue. It sounds odd, but we are opening our third restaurant before our second."
