French brassserie chain Côte to open site in the City

Côte, the French brasserie concept backed by Richard Caring, has secured a new site in the City of London as its plans to grow to 20 sites by the end of the year continue apace.

The restaurant group was launched by the former management team of Strada, Andy Bassadone and Chris Benians, in August 2007 with a site in Wimbledon Village. It came after the pair sold Strada to restaurant group Tragus in a deal worth £140m in June that year.

The latest restaurant, on the site of former Percento Restaurant on Ludgate Hill, will mark the 15th in the group when it opens in August.

The 200-plus covers site form part of the Club Quarters hotel located just by St Paul's Cathedral, and has been granted a new and enlarged outside seating area by the landlord.

Brandon Elmon, director at property agent Davis Coffer Lyons, which handled the acquisition on behalf of Côte, said: "We have been trying secure a site in and around Paternoster Square and St Paul's for a while and we are delighted to have acquired a unit almost on the doorstep to the Cathedral. This is also the first time Côte has occupied part of a hotel."

Caring - who was voted as the most influential restaurateur in the UK in the 2010 Caterersearch 100 - has said there is scope for as many as 300 Côte sites in the UK.
