Average pub rents hold firm

A survey of rent levels for traditional public houses and A4 high-street bars has revealed a smaller-than-expected fall.

Fleurets' Annual Rental Survey, which is now in its 25th year, saw very few new lettings of freehouses over the past year, and rent review activity has also been slow.

Fleurets director David Sutcliffe said: "Tenants are strongly opposing any proposed uplifts. Thus we anticipate continuing low levels of rent review activity.

"With general pressures being downward, we would have expected to see a greater fall in rental levels. However, within the property industry most leases incorporate rent review provisions, which allow for upward-only reviews."
