Ex Emmerdale pub to close
An Enterprise Inns pub made famous by TV soap Emmerdale has been forced to close because its licensees can't drum up enough customer over the winter.
The Woolpack in Elshot, West Yorkshire, featured in Emmerdale until 11 years ago when producers moved filming to a new location.
Nichola and Richard McGrath said that despite strong summer trading thanks to fans of the programme and tourists, winter trade was very slow and they were quitting the pub four years into a ten-year lease.
"In summer its very busy here but in winter its deadly quiet and the two just don't make up for each other," Nichola McGrath told the Mirror.
"We've had enough of working 90 hours a week and want to spend more time with the children. Also its not easy being tied to a pub company with inflated rents and beer prices. We've loved every second here. We're devastated for the villagers and will miss the village terribly. But hopefully Enterprise Inns won't leave it long before they get someone else in. We'll be back for a pint when they do."
Enterprise Inns said: "Mr and Mrs McGrath have temporarily closed the Woolpack and we are in discussions with them. We will provide an update once we are in a position to do so."
