Stephen Terry adds rooms to Hardwick and plans new restaurant

Stephen Terry's renowned gastropub the Hardwick in Wales is to expand next month with the addition of eight bedrooms, while the chef has also revealed plans for another restaurant.

The Great British Menu finalist, who took over the 70-seat pub in Abergavenny in November 2005, will launch the bedrooms in time for the Abergavenny Food Festival, which runs from 18 to 19 September.

Terry told Caterersearch he was thrilled to launch the rooms. "It has been our plan to add rooms since we took on the Hardwick five years ago. It changes the whole dynamic of the operation," he said.

The eight en-suite bedrooms, which mark Terry's first foray into accommodation, will feature high-definition televisions, Wi-Fi and iPod docking stations as well as a selection of truffles by acclaimed chocolatier Damian Allsop. The cost per room per night for bed and breakfast will range from £140 to £160.

Meanwhile, Terry added that he hoped to open a restaurant in Cardiff within the next two years.

"The Hardwick will always be my priority but I do have an itch to open another restaurant," he said. "There's a real niche in Cardiff for a good, independent restaurant offering quality food at affordable prices."
