Celebrity chef Matt Tebbutt puts the Foxhunter up for sale

Celebrity chef Matt Tebbutt has put his gastropub, the Foxhunter in Nantyderry, near Abergavenney, up for sale to focus on his busy television schedule.

The Market Kitchen presenter took over the Foxhunter together with his wife, Lisa, in 2001 and completely refurbished the Grade II-listed property, which was originally built as a stationmaster's house.

The couple built up a solid reputation for the restaurant, which serves a modern British menu focused on seasonal, locally sourced ingredients, by winning accolades including AA Restaurant of the Year for Wales in 2004 and being named Best Newcomer in Wales by The Good Food Guide 2003.

Tebbutt said it had been a hard decision to put the Foxhunter on the market.

"The past 10 years have been a real labour of love and the decision to sell up has been a hard one," he told Wales Online. "But it has been a struggle being away and filming in London and working in the restaurant all weekend."

Tebbutt added that he hoped to open a new, less labour-intensive operation in the future. "We hope to stay in Wales and start up a new venture, such as a cookery school or a deli, maybe," he said.

Hotel and licensed property specialist agent Colliers International has been instructed with the sale of the Foxhunter.

Agent James Richards said: "Matt has put the Foxhunter on the map as a great place to eat in a lovely location. This is a wonderful opportunity for a new owner to take on a well-established business with an excellent reputation."
