Average price of a pint hits £2.80

The average price of a pint has now hit £2.80, up 4% on last year.

That's the finding from the Good Pub Guide 2011, which surveyed 1,110 pubs up and down the country.

Berkshire and Surrey both joined London in the £3 a pint bracket, accoridng to the guide, and even outside those areas, nearly one in four pubs also charges as much.

The West Midlands was found to be the cheapest area of the country with an average price per pint of £2.45. Surrey is the most expensive, with an average price of £3.08. Sam Smiths, Wyre Piddle, Hydes, Donnington and Robinsons were determined to be the cheapest brands.

The Guide also praised Adnams for keeping the increase in its own beer prices down to about half of the national average. It named Adnams brewery of the year for 2011.
