Wetherspoon's to feature 50 beers at international festival

JD Wetherspoon pubs are to hold a 19-day international beer festival featuring 50 real ales from across the country.

The festival will feature brewers from Sri Lanka, Italy and Belgium, who will be brewing their festival beers at English breweries. It will run from 27 October to 14 November.

The overseas beers being brewed in the UK, which will be on offer at the festival are: Lion Stout (The Lion Brewery, Sri Lanka), Castagnale (Birra Del Borgo Brewery, Italy), Green Hop Blonde (Samuel Adams Brewery, USA) and Palm Steenhuffel Blond (Palm Brewery, Belgium).

Flying Dutchman Junibier from Dutch brewery Heineken will complete the overseas line-up of cask-conditioned beers.

The UK beers will include: Chocoholic (JW Lees), Black Squirrel (B&T), Purple Haze (Wood's), Double Espresso Wild Oat Stout (Traditional Scottish Ales), Hairway to Steaven (Freeminer), Ghost Ship (Adnams), Ginger Hare (Bath) and Wheat Dreams (Batemans).

The festival will also feature beers brewed exclusively for the festival, beers which are no longer brewed (but have been brewed again especially for the festival) as well as speciality beers flavoured with strawberry, blackcurrant, coffee as well as coriander. In addition the pubs will also serve up to 10 draught ciders.

Customers will be able to sample any three of the real ales or ciders in third-of-a-pint glasses for the price of a pint.

Tasting notes on all of the beers and ciders will be available in the pubs.

Wetherspoon's beer festival organiser Jonathan Yates said: "The festival will give people the opportunity to enjoy a superb selection of UK and international beers, together with draught ciders, in our pubs."
