BaxterStorey staff graduate from Chef Academy programme
BaxterStorey has graduated 33 chefs from its Chef Academy programme, taking the total number of employees to benefit from the in-house training scheme to 94 since it launched in 2008.
The event saw 33 chefs graduate from five programmes that span from NVQ level 2 through to BA or BSc degree in International Culinary Arts.
Chief executive Alastair Storey said that some of the graduates were familiar faces as they had completed earlier stages of the programme.
"At least 20% of the graduates tonight have completed Level 1 and 2 of the academy before completing the third stage, our Culinary Arts programme," he said. "That represents a massive commitment in their time over several years. Their dedication is paying off as many are now being promoted to senior chef roles and can see a very different career path forming ahead of them."
Retention levels at the company have grown to almost 80% since the course was implemented and BaxterStorey currently receives as many as 10-15 applications for every vacant chef position it advertises.
Over 200 people attended the event, which was held this year at the British Medical Association, and guest speakers included Nigel Haworth and John Campbell, who both help train chefs within BaxterStorey's Chef Academy.
