Tri HotStats: monthly European hotel figures
A drop in corporate and conference demand during August 2010 saw hotel profitability fall across half of the 10 European countries surveyed by Tri Hospitality Consulting.
Gross operating profit per available room (goppar) fell in Barcelona (by 54.9%), Paris (40.3%), Berlin (34.9%), Rome (28%) and Prague (8.2%).
Hotels in Brussels were also affected by the closure of the European Parliament, although the reported goppar loss of €8.31 was 20.3% higher than for August 2009.
Amsterdam enjoyed the biggest boost in goppar (up by 77.4% to €71.31) thanks to a packed calendar of events that included the Grachtenfestival, Uitmarkt and Gay Pride that put it second in the profitability table.
London retained the top spot with a 9.1% increase in goppar to €72.94. Budapest took the third place with a goppar of €24.62.
