Giraffe to open 10 new restaurants

Family-friendly restaurant group Giraffe](http://www.giraffe.net/) plans to open 10 new restaurants in the next 12 months.

The company, which is chaired by leisure entrepreneur Luke Johnson, said it wants to open 10 new sites by the end of 2011, bringing its portfolio to more than 50 restaurants nationwide.

Giraffe said the move represents an acceleration in its roll-out plans, which builds on "both energetic organic growth and earlier strategic acquisitions".

The company is backed by Risk Capital Partners (RCP) and 3i and the additional sites are expected to increase group revenues to in excess of £50m annually.

Giraffe co-owner Russel Joffe said: "Our expansion programme demonstrates how resilient our offer is: our restaurants continually prove they fill a gap in the market in every town we locate in, and our customers' loyalty is undiminished despite the general gloom and doom."

Giraffe recently opened a new site in Blackheath, south east London, with further outlets opening at the end of this year in the Touchwood shopping centre in Solihull, West Midlands, and Horsham, West Sussex.

Next year, the group will open restaurants in Bath and Chelmsford as well as further sites at key locations including the new Westfield shopping centre in Stratford, east London.

Giraffe is owned by Russel and Juliette Joffe and Andrew Jacobs.

RCP is the entrepreneurial private equity firm founded by Johnson, which backed Giraffe in 2004 when the group had just seven sites. RCP is keen to support other growing with its new £75 million private equity fund.
