Average hotel room prices stay flat worldwide
The average price of a hotel room around the world rose just 1% in the third quarter of 2010, compared with the same period last year, according to the Hotels.com Hotel Price Index (HPI).
Despite prices stabilising in both the second and third quarters of this year, the average price of a hotel room by the end of September 2010 was still lower than in 2004. Pegged at 100 in 2004, the HPI stood at 99 in September 2010.
The average price of a room was flat, year-on-year, in Asia, and up 1% in Europe. The Americas showed healthier signs of improvement, with the average price up 4% in the Caribbean and up 6% in Latin America.
At the end of September, the HPI stood at 115 in Asia, 110 in Latin America, 103 in North America, 101 in Europe and 97 in the Caribbean.
