Michelin Bib Gourmands fall to 117 as Ramsay's Foxtrot Oscar deleted
A total of 26 establishments have won a new Bib Gourmand in England, Wales and Scotland in the Michelin Guide for Great Britain and Ireland in 2011.
Meanwhile, 38 including Gordon Ramsay's Foxtrot Oscar, have lost their Bib Gourmand status.
That leaves a total of 117 restaurants, pubs and cafes in possession of the award, down from 131 in 2010.
Among the additions were La Locanda in Gisburn, Lancashire; Zucca in London's Bermondsey; and Galvin Cafe a Vin in Spitalfields.
Ian Huxley general manager of the Cat Inn in West Hoathly, West Sussex, which also won a Bib Gourmand for the first time said: "We are all very excited and happy that the hard work we put into running this pub has paid off. We were very surprised. We didn't do it to win awards we did it to make the best of the place we have so we are delighted.
"Our chef Max Leonard has been with us since November 2009 when we opened and he has been constant all through. I think the consistency of flavours and supply of fresh produce that he brings to the business have helped us win, along with the small touches that we do out front to make people come back."
Steven Smith, chef proprietor of the Freemasons Country Inn in Clitheroe, Lancashire, who also won his first Bib Gourmand said: "It is absolutely fantastic. We are only just over 18 months old and it is my first venture. We want to go further than a Bib Gourmand now. We are in Lancashire which isn't well-known for its food as such, so it will give us that bit of something behind us to really push us on. We are opening again tomorrow night after having a brand new kitchen installed because we used to have the old pub kitchen for the last 20 months, which was difficult. So to win a Bib Gourmand with the kitchen we have had really makes it all worthwhile."
Among the deletions were the Swan in West Malling, Kent; Galvin Bistrot de Luxe in London's Baker Street, and Ramsay's Foxtrot Oscar in Chelsea.
Bib Gourmands are awarded to establishments that represent value for money at whatever price.
