BBPA encourages pubs to get involved in British Tourism Week

The British Beer & Pub Association (BBPA) has produced a guide for pubs and brewers to show them how to get involved in British Tourism Week 2011.

The BBPA said the week, which runs from 12-20 March, would be a good opportunity to "showcase the central role that pubs play in Britain's tourism and hospitality sector".

The BBPA has suggested pubs get involved through activities such as quizzes, special meals and events. It is also encouraging them to invite their local MP on Friday 19 March to pull a pint and remind them how Britain's tourism industry depends on pubs. It is also particularly keen for pubs and breweries in coastal areas to get involved, because the week includes a special celebration of coastal piers.

Brigid Simmonds, BBPA chief executive (pictured), said: "Without Britain's beer and pubs the tourist industry in the UK wouldn't work. For generations, visitors, both from home and abroad, have seen the pub as the beacon of hospitality - and something to be cherished. With the growth of the ‘staycation', this has never been more important. British Tourism Week is a great chance for brewers and pubs to demonstrate the vital economic and social role we play."
